Who says it's not easy being green?
Most electric scooters, like ECOPED, can be classified as zero-emissions vehicles since they emit no combustion byproducts - other than if you're breathing really hard, of course. There are, however, environmental effects from electricity generation and power distribution as well as manufacturing and disposing of high storage density batteries, like the ones installed on ECOPED electric scooters. But even taking these issues into account, electric scooters still have significantly lower environmental impact than conventional automobiles. ECOPED batteries use the same technology as automotive batteries, so they take advantage of an existing recycling industry.
A recent study on the environment impact of electric scooters versus other forms of transportation found that electric scooters are about:
18 times more energy efficient than a SUV
13 times more energy efficient than a sedan
6 times more energy efficient than rail transit
about equal impact to the environment as a conventional bicycle.
